A joke.
When I was 9 or 10 years old—I can’t remember exactly when it was—my second cousin (once removed) told a joke that stuck with me throughout my entire life.
The joke was “What did Arnold Schwarzenegger say when offered a part in a movie about famous composers?”
“I’ll be Bach.”
This joke has been firmly planted in the fore of my demented brain for over 14 years. When I think of Schwarzenegger, I think of the joke. When I think of Bach, I think of the joke. Sometimes it just pops up.
The cousin was renowned and reviled for his horrible jokes and awkward personality. Why have his dopey words haunted me all my life?
